CRIME Search warrants bring host of charges



Police used warrants to enter three residences and make drug arrests.
YOUNGSTOWN -- With municipal court closed for Thanksgiving, people arrested and taken to the Mahoning County jail the day before or on the holiday had to wait until today for arraignment.
The list includes some arrested by members of the Vice Squad, who used search warrants to enter three residences Wednesday afternoon. Some charged during the raids received misdemeanor citations and were released and told to be in court today.

At 850 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Apt. 127, police made five arrests:
UJohn H. Johnson, 32, of Overland Avenue, charged with trafficking in crack cocaine. Police said they found 31 packaged-for-sale bags of suspected crack on a heater register behind a couch where Johnson was sitting. He was taken to jail.
UDebra Findley, 38, of New York Avenue, possession of drug paraphernalia (crack pipe). She was released on a court summons.
UMelvin J. Green Sr., 55, of Jefferson Street, same.
UMarvin Kennedy, 47, of East Ravenwood Avenue, criminal trespass. He was released on a court summons.
UEdward E. Thigpen, 37, of Lauderdale Avenue, same.
At 377 W. Glenaven Avenue, police made one arrest:
UChris Howard, 22, the resident, on a charge of drug abuse (crack cocaine). Police said they found Howard sitting in a chair with a loaded 9mm handgun at his feet and a bag of suspected crack under the chair. A gun charge is pending a review by the city prosecutor. He was taken to jail.
At 921 Parkwood Avenue, police made one arrest:
UEarl Watson, 46, the resident, possession of drug paraphernalia (crack pipe). He was released on a court summons.
Elsewhere Wednesday, police made two drug arrests in the 500 block of Griffith Street, known for high drug activity, while working a detail for the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority:
UWilliam McMonagle, 23, of Liberty Avenue, charged with drug abuse (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia (glass pipe). Police said they found a bag of suspected marijuana in his shirt pocket and a marijuana blunt cigar and the pipe in his car. He was released with a court summons.
UDehaven L. Scurry, 36, of Bissell Avenue, drug abuse (marijuana). Same.
