Pharmacist receives 51-month prison term
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A New Castle pharmacist was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for selling 1 million doses of generic Valium, generic Xanax and other drugs without prescriptions.
Daniel C. Gebbia, 38, pleaded guilty in May to charges he sold prescription drugs from a Web site and threatened a customer online. Gebbia tried to hide the sales by forging prescriptions, prosecutors said.
Gebbia apologized before a U.S. District judge sentenced him Monday. He put the blame for his actions on a divorce that left him with no assets.
"The only thing I could think of to do was put an add online and foolishly sell drugs without prescriptions," Gebbia said.
As part of his plea, Gebbia agreed to forfeit $787,000 he made from the sales, as well as the Web site and five cars, including two Dodge Vipers.
He also agreed to give up his pharmacy in New Castle.
