CINCINNATI -- Patrick Sparks scored 20 points and Shagari Alleyne added three second-half dunks to lead No. 8 Kentucky to a 73-53 victory over Ball State on Tuesday.
The 7-foot-3 Alleyne, who finished with 10 points, lifted the Wildcats (2-0) with his second-half play after Kentucky played sluggishly for most of the first 25 minutes.
Ball State pulled within 45-40, but Alleyne led an 11-2 run with his three dunks, all in a span of three minutes. Two came on alley-oop passes, the third on a tip pass from Rajon Rondo.
Sparks went 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Morris and Chuck Hayes each added 10 points for Kentucky, while Hayes also had 11 rebounds.
Peyton Stovall led Ball State with 14 points, while Dennis Trammell added 13.
Buffalo 87,Fairleigh Dickinson 84, OT
AMHERST, N.Y. -- Mark Bortz tied a career high with 24 points, and Turner Battle added 17 to help Buffalo over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Down by seven points with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation, the Bulls went on a 7-0 run, capped by Bortz's dunk off an inbound pass from Battle with 1.7 seconds to go.
Gordan Klaiber led Fairleigh Dickinson (1-3) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Marshall 80, E. Tennessee St. 76
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A.W. Hamilton led five Marshall scorers in double-figures with 16 points to lead the Thundering Herd past East Tennessee State.
Junior point guard Tim Smith led the Buccaneers with a career-high 35 points.
Cent. Michigan 68, Valparaiso 55
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Kevin Nelson scored 16 points and was 9-of-10 from the foul line to lead Central Michigan past Valparaiso.
Valparaiso (1-1) hit just five field goals in the first half and shot 25 percent from the field.
