GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Phil Bushre had 15 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, to lead Grove City to its third straight victory. Mark Smith added 12 points and Bobby Glass scored 11 for the Wolverines, who trailed 26-25 at halftime but shot 52 percent (13-for-25) in the second half. Doug Merski scored 13 points, Tom Lulich had 12 and Kevin Buczynski had 10 for Penn State Behrend (1-2).
Akron 77, Mount Union 44
AKRON -- Brett Hershberger and Brad Gerard scored 14 points each for Mount Union in its season opener. Chris Blakely had seven rebounds. Jeremiah Wood paced Akron (1-1) with 16 points. Darryl Peterson added 11 and Cedrick Middleton had 10. Rick McFadden, a Struthers High graduate, did not score in 16 minutes. He had two rebounds.
Geneva 91, Penn State Beaver 70
MONACA, Pa. -- Christian Hauser scored 18 points and Tim Sawyer scored 16 to lead Geneva (5-2). Sawyer made four 3-pointers. Kyle McDermott scored 12 and Nate Conley 11. Brandon Templeton led Penn State Beaver (1-6) with 19 points, Paul Passerrello scored 17 and Brandon Stewart had 13.
Bethany 109, Marietta 98
MARIETTA -- Bethany (2-1) shot 59.7 percent from the field, including 56.3 percent from the 3-point line. Jim Deep scored 24 points, and Mike and Matt Drahos each scored 22 points. Mike Drahos had 13 rebounds and Matt Drahos had 10. Scott Mezyk scored 12 points and James Wallace had 11 points and seven rebounds. Craig Stewart and Sam Rutherford each had 19 points for Marietta.
Westminster 117,Penn State-New Kensington 95
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Craig Hannon, a freshman from New Castle Union High, led the Titans (2-1) with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Mark DeMonaco added 15 points, while Ed Pagley and Micah Delo scored 10 each. Pat O'Connor had six rebounds. Aaron Knight led five Penn State-New Kensington (1-4) players in double figures with 20 points.
WOMEN
Grove City 66, Carnegie Mellon 51
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sandy O'Keefe scored 14 points and Abby Moose added 10 points and four assists for the Wolverines (2-1), who held Carnegie Mellon to 33 percent shooting (21-of-63). Rachel McCoy had eight points and eight rebounds for Grove City. Carissa Sain scored 17 points and had seven rebounds, and Lisa Seacat had 15 points for Carnegie Mellon (2-1).
Slippery Rock 58, Fairmont State 56
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Kristen Bonner scored 22 points and Stacey Green added 14 points and nine rebounds for The Rockets (3-1). Erin Frankovich had eight points and 10 rebounds, and Amber McFeely had 10 assists. Fairmont State (2-1) was led by Kristen Gattuso, with 18 points, and Lindsay Edwards, who had 11 off the bench. Slippery Rock led 37-29 at halftime.
Denison 65, Thiel 43
GRANVILLE -- Heather Abate led Thiel (0-3) with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Ariel Venesky was the only other Tomcat in double figures with 10. Kristen Sheffield was Denison's (2-1) top performer, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks and four steals. Emma Woodward added 13 points and seven boards.
Kenyon 66, Bethany 46
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Katy Zeanah scored 22 points to lead Kenyon (3-0) in Bethany's home opener. Bethany (0-3) was led by Courtney Irwin with 14 points and five rebounds. Lisa Mitchell added a career-high 11 points and two steals and Katie Resanovich had nine points and four rebounds.
Washington & amp; Jefferson 57,Allegheny 54
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Valery Medwid led Allegheny (2-1) with 11 points and four steals. Meredith McDonough added 10 points and nine rebounds, and Courtney Steding had nine points and 11 rebounds. Kristin Lyzen pulled down nine rebounds. Leading Washington & amp; Jefferson (2-1) was Leigh Sulkowski with 14 points, seven rebounds and six blocks. Courtney Janczak and Dayna Greenfield each added 12 points.
Westminster 56, Marietta 32
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Desiree Sterling scored 15 points and Eric Tallo added 12 for Westminster (3-0), which limited Marietta (1-2) to 25.6 percent shooting (10-of-39). Tallo had nine rebounds and Alyson Gasper had five assists. Rebecca Tokodi scored nine points for Marietta.
