EDUCATION Hubbard High School gets excellence rating



The high school will be receiving a certificate from the state.
HUBBARD -- The board of education congratulated students and staff at Hubbard High School for the school's excellence designation on the 2003-04 report card from Ohio.
The board noted that students showed impressive improvement on their state tests scores.
"I think this speaks highly of the staff and the hard work of the students," said Principal Larry Luchinsky, who will be receiving a certificate from the Ohio Department of Education of the school.
Luchinsky added during Monday's board meeting, "We have a super staff, and this year is going very well, too."
Robin Fetty, a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, also was honored at the board meeting for receiving the Giant Eagle Class Act Award. The presentation of the award was aired on WFMJ-TV 21.
Other business
In other action the board accepted the following donations:
UA $50 donation from the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department the Hubbard High School Art Club
UA DVD for Roosevelt school from Roosevelt School Parents Association.
U $815 from Reed PTO for Reed Middle School. The donation bought a talking light for the cafeteria. The light warns children when to settle down during lunchtime by using traffic light-like mechanisms. Green means the children are well behaved, while yellow tells them to quiet down and red tells the them to sit quietly.
UDiscussed complaints it received for not having enough handicap parking spaces in the high school parking lot. Board members, especially concerned with this matter with the approach of basketball season, are looking at adding additional spaces.
U Announced openings on the pool committee. Interested applicants were urged to keep an eye out for an announcement about how to apply.
