Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Joshua R. Kosa, 21, of North Bailey Road on Tuesday to the Grafton Correctional Institution. Kosa pleaded guilty in September to one count of attempted aggravated vehicular assault. Authorities say Kosa was driving north on state Route 45 in North Jackson in June 2003 when his car went off the right side of the road and hit Ashlee Smith of Lake Milton, who was walking on the sidewalk along the road. Ashlee, now 15, sustained serious injuries but survived. Jay Macejko, an assistant county prosecutor, said Kosa told authorities at that time that he had heard a thud but thought it was an animal or pothole and kept on driving.
