PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL Cachet Murray sets new Girard scoring record



The senior has 1,202 career points; she scored 25 in a victory over Struthers.
STRUTHERS -- Cachet Murray scored 25 points, and her basket at the 4:38 mark of the third quarter gave her the school's career scoring record, to lead Girard High over Struthers 55-22 in a girls basketball game Monday night.
Murray now has 1,202 points, breaking the mark of 1,197 held by Nicole Willrich.
Girard improved to 2-0 with the victory.
Struthers (0-1) was led by Nicole McGuire with five points.
Liberty 43, Niles 28
NILES -- Ashley White led three Leopards in double figures, scoring 14.
Alaina Williams added 12 points and Michelle Bykes scored 10 for Liberty (1-0).
Gabrelcik scored nine points for Niles.
Brookfield 64, Badger 35
BROOKFIELD -- Jacki Rust scored 22 points to lead Brookfield in its season opener.
Freshman Morgan Bonekovic had 14 points, 14 rebounds and nine blocked shots for the Warriors. Raquel Brenner scored 10 points.
Badger (0-2) was led by Niki Likens with nine points.
Maplewood 49,Lakeview 36
CORTLAND -- Stephanie Schwartz scored 22 points for Maplewood (2-0).
Jessica Schwartz scored 12 points, while Leah Dean had 10. Jennifer Grayson had 10 rebounds.
Lakeview (1-1) was led by Lauren McCumber, who scored seven points.
McDonald 70,Lordstown 16
MCDONALD -- Ashleigh Tondo had 23 points and 11 assists, to lead McDonald (1-1).
Amy Dolsak had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils, which led 18-5 after the first quarter and 32-11 at halftime.
Jennifer Bennett scored 11 points for Lordstown (0-1).
Mineral Ridge 45,Bristol 33
MINERAL RIDGE -- Rachael Filer and Kara Goche scored 11 points apiece for Mineral Ridge (1-1), while Elyse Hawout added 10.
Meagan Bellino scored 10 points for Bristol (0-1).
Crestview 69,Beaver Local 57
NEW WATERFORD -- Elyse Mongillo scored 21 points to lead Crestview in its season opener.
Mongillo also had seven assists and four steals. Brianne Phillis scored 17 points, while Rachel Parker had five rebounds.
Beaver Local (0-2) was led by Mallory Vajko, who finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Samantha Mobley had nine rebounds and Courtney Haynes had five assists.
East Palestine 55,Warren JFK 47
EAST PALESTINE -- Ashley Ehrenberg tossed in 19 points to lead three East Palestine (1-0) players in double figures.
Samantha Dicello and Amanda Mesmer added 10 points each for the Bulldogs.
Alyssa Chavez and Erika Knepp led Warren JFK with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
