Niles man charged with armed robbery
NILES -- City police have charged 35-year-old Michael Goodman of Niles with one count each of armed robbery and receiving stolen property.
Police said Goodman was arrested Sunday on the robbery warrant after fleeing them in a car. The suspect abandoned the vehicle on Third Street and ran into a wooded area, where he was taken into custody with assistance from Weathersfield and McDonald police officers.
Police Capt. Chuck Wilson said a warrant had been issued for Goodman in the armed robbery of the Country Fair store at U.S. Route 422 and Vienna Avenue on Nov. 13.
Another man, Marshall Finch, 41, of Warren, was already in police custody in the Country Fair robbery and has been charged with one count of complicity to aggravated robbery.
Wilson credited the work of Lordstown Officer Bob Antal for arresting Finch on a traffic stop when evidence was found in the car the suspect was driving, including a purse taken in the robbery. Wilson said Finch's arrest enabled the officers to put a warrant out for Goodman.
Both men remain in the Trumbull County jail.
