NBA ROUNDUP Monday's games

Timberwolves 83, Mavericks 82
DALLAS -- Kevin Garnett made two free throws with 5.9 seconds remaining, then Trenton Hassell blocked Jerry Stackhouse's long jumper at the buzzer, giving Minnesota the victory in Dallas' first game without Dirk Nowitzki. Garnett finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists, just missing his first triple-double of the season. Sam Cassell added 16. Josh Howard led Dallas with 22 points, tying the career high he set two games before. Rookie Devin Harris had 14 points and Marquis Daniels had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Nowitzki twisted his left ankle just before halftime Sunday against Denver. An MRI taken Monday showed a mild sprain that will keep him out seven to 10 days.
Hornets 76, Jazz 75
SALT LAKE CITY -- New Orleans won for the first time this season behind 20 points and 11 rebounds by Jamaal Magloire. Utah's Andrei Kirilenko missed two free throws with 4.4 seconds remaining and Gordan Giricek's jumper at the buzzer bounced off the rim. Lee Nailon scored 16 points for the Hornets. Kirilenko led Utah with 18 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks. John Stockton's No. 12 was retired at halftime.
Suns 100, Bulls 82
PHOENIX -- Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire scored 21 points apiece, and Phoenix made sure Chicago remained the NBA's only winless team. Ben Gordon scored 20 points for the Bulls, who matched a franchise record for consecutive losses to start a season. The Bulls opened with 1967-68 season 0-9. Marion added a season-high 16 rebounds and Steve Nash added 15 points and six assists for the Suns, who have won five straight.
Grizzlies 93, Spurs 90
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Bonzi Wells had 26 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining, to lead Memphis. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 26 points and nine rebounds, and Tony Parker added 18 points. Playing without Pau Gasol, the Grizzlies used a 12-3 spurt in the third period to take the lead and held off a determined push by San Antonio down the stretch.
