Virginia knocks off No. 10 Arizona; sixth-ranked Illinois wins by 31

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Freshman Sean Singletary scored 15 points to help Virginia upset No. 10 Arizona 78-60 on Sunday.
The Cavaliers (2-0) led 34-22 at halftime and used several short runs to keep the Wildcats at least nine back throughout the second half.
Singletary, a 6-foot point guard, was 6-for-11 from the field, had eight assists and five rebounds.
Devin Smith led Virginia with 17 points, Elton Brown had 15 and Forbes had 13.
Channing Frye led Arizona with 17 points, Hassan Adams had 14 and Salim Stoudamire 13, nearly 10 below his average. The Wildcats shot just 39.7 percent and hit just 5 of 24 from beyond the arc.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Dee Brown scored 20 points, all in the first half, to lead Illinois. Roger Powell Jr. added 15 points for Illinois. Luther Head scored 15, Deron Williams scored 11 and James Augustine added 10.

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Lawrence Roberts had the first triple-double in Mississippi State history. Roberts finished with 18 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (4-1). Winsome Frazier had 13 points, Ontario Harper and Jamall Edmonson each had 12 and Gary Ervin had 11 for Mississippi State.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Chuck Davis scored a career-high 25 points to lead Alabama. Earnest Shelton added 17 points for the Crimson Tide (2-0). Ronald Steele scored 14 and Kennedy Winston had 13.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Sean Mallon scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Gonzaga (2-0). Ronny Turiaf added 20 points and eight rebounds Adam Morris scored 19 points.
Derek Raivio had 13 assists.
