William Carney seated as president of Men's Garden Clubs of America



OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- William J. Carney, a member and past president of the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown, was installed as national president of The Gardeners of America/Men's Garden Clubs of America at the national directors meeting Nov. 4-6.
He will serve one year as president of the organization.
A Poland resident, Carney has served as president of the Great Lakes Region and has received several awards from the region for his contributions to the organization. He also has served a number of years as national director and vice president.
He also has served three years on the board of The Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens and three years as its president. A master gardener, he also volunteers at the gardens as a tour guide.
Carney, who is on the board of directors of the Volunteer Service Agency, recently was honored for his service to the community by President George Bush. Carney met the President when Air Force One landed at the Youngstown Regional Airport in Vienna during a campaign stop and also received a letter of congratulations.
