Thanksgiving worship
CAMPBELL -- A Thanksgiving Day worship service will be at 9 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 238 Bright Ave. Churches participating are Shiloh, Rising Star Baptist, Metropolitan Baptist, and Faith Temple Baptist churches. Faith Temple's choir will provide the music. The Rev. Terry S. Bolds, pastor of Rising Star, will deliver the sermon. A testimonial service also will take place, said the Rev. Hubert Clardy, pastor of the host church.
Celebrating 37 years
CAMPBELL -- Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will celebrate its 37th church anniversary at 4 p.m. Nov. 28. The theme will be "A Prevailing Church."
Ecumenical service
GIRARD --An ecumenical service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Church Hill Road.
Continuing to celebrate
WARREN -- Agape Assembly Church, 426 Nevada Ave. S.W. (Westlawn) continues the celebration of its 21st anniversary at 7 p.m. today and at 11 a.m. Sunday. The theme is "Jesus Christ -- the Chief Cornerstone Makes Everything Beautiful in His Time." A banquet follows Sunday's service. No charge.
Gathering in Girard
GIRARD -- The community's churches are joining together for a Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Church Hill Road. Clergy from the Baptist, Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, Presbyterian and United Methodist Churches will share in leading worship. A combined choir from some of the churches will sing. The story of the five kernels of corn will be shared.
A spiritual afternoon
WARREN -- The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, 8640 Squires Lane N.E., will have an afternoon of spirituality from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 11. The presenter will be the Rev. Elias Rafaj, who will speak about "Icons of the Incarnation: God With Us." The afternoon concludes with vespers at 4:10 p.m. There is no fee, and those who wish to attend may register at (330) 856-1813 by Dec. 6.
'That Silent Night'
BOARDMAN -- Beaver Valley Choral Society will perform "That Silent Night" at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road, at the corner of Tippecanoe Road.
Concert by Glory Bound
COLUMBIANA -- First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Ave., will have a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary, featuring the local band Glory Bound. The band will play gospel, blue grass, contemporary and original selections. There will be refreshments in the fellowship hall afterward.
Thanksgiving prayers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of St. Columba Cathedral, St. Brendan Parish and St. John Lutheran Church will host the second annual community ecumenical Thanksgiving eve prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave. (next to Fellows Riverside Garden). Refreshments will follow the service. Those attending may bring nonperishable food to be distributed along with monetary offerings to Fish-Samaritan House, St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Lutheran Social Services of Mahoning Valley. This joint service is an expression of a Lutheran-Catholic covenant.
Methodists to unite
POLAND -- Several local United Methodist churches will sponsor a community Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman Poland Road, near Interstate 680 and Route 224. Mark Statler will be the guest. A combined choir will feature singers from Boardman Lockwood United Methodist Church, the Boardman United Methodist Church, Western Reserve United Methodist Church and Mahoning United Methodist Church.
For Baptist women
YOUNGSTOWN -- Women of the Eastern Ohio Baptist District Association will sponsor the annual Baptist Women's World Day on Monday at New Grace Baptist Church, 909 Fairgreen Ave. People from area churches will participate in the service at 6 p.m.
Thanksgiving readings
NEW YORK -- The American Jewish Committee issued its fourth annual edition of "America's Table," a 20-page booklet about the nation's diverse but united peoples for readings at Thanksgiving dinner tables.
The idea originated in 2001 with the felt need for spiritual togetherness after the Sept. 11 attacks.
The interfaith booklet is issued in association with the Islamic Supreme Council of America and groups representing black, Hispanic and Asian-Americans.
The New York Times Knowledge Network is distributing 50,000 copies and lesson plans to New York City area schools.
