NEWSPAPERS Sandusky Register names publisher



SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) -- Doug Phares, president of a group of Michigan newspapers, has been named publisher of the Sandusky Register.
Effective Jan. 31, he will replace Lee Carter, who will become publisher of the Standard-Examiner in Ogden, Utah. Both newspapers are owned by Sandusky Newspapers Inc.
Phares, 38, has been president of Leader Publications, based in Niles, Mich., and publisher of the Niles Daily Star, Dowagiac Daily News, Cassopolis Vigilant, Edwardsburg Argus and The Leader in Niles.
He previously worked at The Courier-News in Elgin, Ill. and The Daily Journal in Fergus Falls, Minn.
The Register has a circulation of about 23,000 daily and 27,000 on Sunday.
