MILWAUKEE -- Jay Youngblood and Armon Gates scored 14 points each to lead Kent State to a 77-52 victory over Binghamton Friday night in the first round of the Blue and Gold Pepsi Classic.
Marcus Crenshaw, a freshman playing his first game for Kent State (1-0), added 12 points.
Troy Hailey led Binghamton (0-2) with 12 points and Andre Heard had 9.
Drake 90, Akron 88
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Aliou Keita's two free throws with 51 seconds left gave Drake the lead and Lonnie Randolph's free throw with 12 seconds remaining sealed the victory.
Randolph led the Bulldogs (1-0) with 22 points and made all five of his 3-pointers. Klayton Korver had 17. Keita, a transfer from Tulsa, had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Bubba Walther led Akron with 21 points and Darryl Peterson had 18.
Evansville 100, Cent. Michigan 85
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Lucious Wagner scored 16 points, leading six Evansville players in double figures.
Andre Burton, Matt Webster and Dupree Fletcher added 15 points each, while Kyle Anslinger and Justin Petty had 11 apiece for the Purple Aces (1-0).
Kevin Nelson led Central with 24 points, while Giordan Watson added 16 points and nine assists -- and nine turnovers -- and Tony Bowne had 14 points.
Vanderbilt 73, Toledo 57
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Mario Moore scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half and Vanderbilt won its 14th consecutive home opener.
Dawid Przybyszewski scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, and Julian Terrell added nine rebounds for Vanderbilt.
Florentino Valencia scored 18 for Toledo. Sammy Villegas scored 14 and Keith Triplett added 10.
Miami (Ohio) 81, Purdue 71
OXFORD -- Chet Mason scored 16, and Danny Horace had 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead Miami over Purdue.
Carl Landry had 25 points and 16 rebounds for Purdue (0-1) and Brandon McKnight had 19.
All five Miami starters scored in double figures, with Monty St. Clair adding 14 and Nathan Peavy and William Hatcher each scoring 10. Freshman Chad Troyer added 11 points off the bench, all in the second half. St. Clair also had six steals.
