Geneva men win Tenn. tournament



Muskingum crushed Thiel College at a tournament hosted by Juniata College.
HUNTINGTON, Tenn. -- Senior Tim Sawyer scored a career-high 28 points to lead Geneva to its second victory over a top-10 team in two days, as the Golden Tornadoes defeated Huntington College, 92-90 in overtime, Saturday, in the championship game of the Huntington Hall of Fame Tournament.
On Friday, Geneva (4-2) defeated Siena Heights. Huntington is ranked third in the NAIA poll.
Nate Conley added 22 points for the Golden Tornadoes, while Stefan Grundberg added 12 and Greg McDivitt 11 and Christian Hauser 10.
Alex Kock scored 31 points for Huntington (5-3).
Muskingum 85, Thiel 50
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Daryl Moore was the Tomcats' top scorer, finishing with 11 points, in the opening round of the Mutual Benefit "Doc" Green Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Juniata College.
Ryan Singleton and Percy Sweeting each added nine in the loss, which was the season opener for Thiel.
Muskingum finished with four in double figures, led by Zach Ross with 16 and Graig Turson with 13. Jeff Smallwood and Roy Skidmore each chipped in with 10 points and Matt Dansby had nine rebounds.
Women
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Kyla Hogan had 21 points and seven rebounds for Mount Union (1-1) in an 83-51 rout of Clarke (Iowa) on the final day of the North Central Tournament.
Ashley Bourdeau added 18 points, while Lauren Friedrich had 17 points and four assists.
Leigh Ann Koopman scored 13 points for Clarke (1-1), while Jessi Briggs scored 12.
Slippery Rock 65, Tiffin 52
FINDLAY -- Stacey Green had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead Slippery Rock (2-1) in the final of the Towne Place Suites Tip-Off Classic at the University of Findlay.
Green was named tournament MVP, finishing with 34 points and 24 rebounds.
Erin Frankovich was also named to the all-tournament team, scored 18 points to go along with seven rebounds. Kristen Bonner added 11 points and Amber McFeely 10 points and six assists.
Walsh 74, Grove City 58
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Ingrid Brainard was named MVP of the Howard Johnson Tip-Off Classic, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists for Walsh (2-0).
Tammy Schumacher and Beth Sternberg added 10 points each. Sternberg also had five assists and Damoniqe Askew had eight rebounds. Askew was also named to the all-tournament team.
For Grove City (1-1), Rachel McCoy scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds. Sandy O'Keefe added 12 points. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
Geneva 67, Muskingum 54
NEW CONCORD -- Megan Gallagher had 15 points and five assists for Geneva (2-1), while Jen Rawding added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Kylee Kittner had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Leslie Kimble scored 12 points and Crystal Berry added 10 for Muskingum (0-2).
Calvin 72, Thiel 44
COLUMBUS -- Calvin opened with a 13-0 run in the consolation game of the Capital University Classic.
Ariel Venesky had 12 points and eight rebounds for Thiel (0-2). Sarah McCoy, Nicole Valentino and Heather Abate all scored seven.
Calvin (1-1) was led by Lisa Nanninga with 17 points and five rebounds, while Lisa Winkle and Kristen McDonald added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
