YOUNGSTOWN -- Three men were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after their vehicle crashed into a bridge pillar on Edwards Street at 2:24 a.m. Saturday. The driver, Adam Feliciano, 29, of Donald Avenue, was cited for failure to control, and was in guarded condition. Police said they were advised that his license is under suspension. The accident report shows that his passengers were Michael Behanna, 25, of Canfield Road (Brandywine apartments), and Antonio Pace, 18, of Red Grouse Court. Behanna and Pace were in stable condition. Police said Feliciano was driving north on Edwards when he lost control of the 1996 Dodge Intrepid, went over the curb and struck the pillar head-on near Marshall Street.
Neighbors urged to callwarden about stray dog
YOUNGSTOWN -- A large black dog running on the property of a vacant house at 2551 Tampa Ave. was most likely abandoned there, police said. Officers advised neighbors to call the Mahoning County dog warden on Monday. The house has windows broken out and trash and junk in the yard, police said. Their report will be turned over to the city's housing and health departments.
Elderly man, son reportpossible phone scam
YOUNGSTOWN -- An elderly Palmer Avenue man and his son told police Friday about a possible phone scam. They said a man called on behalf of the Youngstown Police Department requesting contributions for terminally ill children. The 76-year-old man and his son became suspicious when the caller said he knew their address and asked if it would be convenient to come pick up the donation. The caller's number in Warren will be turned over to detectives.
Fire department to get$17,820 federal grant
MERCER, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, has announced that the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department in Mercer County will receive a $17,820 grant from the Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate and the U.S. Fire Administration. The funding will be used to improve the fire operations and firefighter safety equipment.
Christmas toy drivefor Mercer County kids
MERCER, Pa. -- The annual Christmas toy drive by the Mercer Barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police is taking place through Dec. 10 in conjunction with the Mercer County Children's Aid Society. Only new, unwrapped toys will be accepted, and they may be dropped off at the barracks at 826 Franklin Road. The toys will be given to needy children in the county. Mercer County officialshire guards for jail
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County commissioners have hired three part-time jail guards for the county jail. They are Richard Davenport of Hermitage, Christina Lacey of Mercer and Tami Stafford of Cochranton. They all will be paid $8.57 an hour.
