Perugini needs 187: Senior Jen Perugini, the 2002 Horizon League newcomer of the year, needs 187 more points to become the 16th player in school history to score at least 1,000 career points. The last player to accomplish the feat was Leslie Majewski, who scored her 1,000th point in the last game of the 1999-2000 season.
3-point streak at 270: With five 3-pointers against Wright State in the Horizon League tournament, Youngstown State extended its 3-point streak to 270 consecutive games, which is the seventh longest in the nation. The last time the Penguins did not make at least one 3-point basket was against Chicago State on February 4, 1995.
Hanek ranks seventh: Fifth-year senior Cathy Hanek has been one of the top 3-point shooters in school history. The 5-foot-8 guard ranks seventh all-time with 102 career 3-pointers and needs 28 more to move into fifth place all-time. Hanek also needs 391 more points to reach 1,000 for her career.
Fleming moving up blocks chart: Senior Tara Fleming continues her climb up the YSU all-time blocks chart. Fleming ranks third all-time with 81 career blocks. Last season, she ranked second in the Horizon League with 1.54 blocks per game.
Gaudiose ranked seventh: Sophomore Kristy Gaudiose continues to display her composure at point guard. The Poland Seminary High graduate ranked seventh in the Horizon League with 3 assists per game. She also owned an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.11, which ranked fifth in the league. Her 71 assists last season is also the fifth-best freshman assist total in school history.
Penguins second in FG defense: Youngstown State has made it difficult for its opponents to score points. The Penguins ranked second in the Horizon League in field goal percentage defense last season, allowing their opponents to shoot just 39.3 percent from the floor. They also ranked fourth in points allowed per game at 64.3.
Close ones hurt: Of Youngstown State's 24 losses last year, 17 were decided by 10 points or less. The Penguins lost by 10 four times, once by eight, twice by seven, once by six, five times by five, once by four, twice by three and once by one.
