Man is held in Trumbull robberies

LORDSTOWN -- A routine traffic stop by village police led to the arrest of one man police believe is tied to several armed robberies in Trumbull County in recent weeks.
"We just happened to be in the right place at the right time," said Detective Chris Bordonaro.
One of the village's officers stopped a car that was speeding northbound on Highland Avenue about 9 a.m. Tuesday. Three men jumped out and ran, and one was caught, police said.
The man, being held in Niles city jail, will be charged with receiving stolen property, and additional charges are possible, Bordonaro said.
"Inside the vehicle were some items that were reported taken in some of the robberies in Trumbull County," Bordonaro explained. "We recovered items that were reported stolen in one of the multiple robberies."
None of the crimes occurred in Lordstown, he said. The multiple investigations involve Niles, Howland, Warren, Girard and Liberty.
