CONSTRUCTION Work to continue at East Palestine sewage plant

EAST PALESTINE -- Construction at the city's sewage treatment plant will continue through next summer.
City Manager Gary Clark said renovation and repairs to the plant total about $4 million. About $1 million of the total project cost will go toward repairing flood damage to the plant, he said.
The plant was flooded three times this year during storms.
Clark said flood damage estimates would have been higher, but some of the damaged equipment was already scheduled to be replaced with other, more modern technology.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse the city for some of the flood repair costs, Clark said. He doesn't know yet how much FEMA money the city will receive.
Clark said FEMA officials expect to have Ohio disaster processing finished by the end of January.
Clark said the recent upgrades include installation of two new clarifier systems.
Various construction and renovation has been part of ongoing work at the sewage treatment plant for nearly 10 years, both to provide for growth and to continue to meet Ohio Environmental Protection Agency standards, he said.
