YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital's annual Christmas tree lighting will be at 8 p.m. Thursday in front of the hospital on Gypsy Lane.
The tree lighting is a symbolic kickoff to the annual Light-Up-A-Life fund-raising campaign to benefit the children's hospital.

7th Ward meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 7th Ward Citizens' Coalition will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church at Irma and Everett avenues.
Nominations for officers and members of the board of directors will take place. The guest speaker will be John McNally IV, city law director and Mahoning County commissioner-elect.
3rd Ward meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a town hall meeting for 3rd Ward residents from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Park Vista Retirement Community, 1216 Fifth Ave.
Councilman Richard Atkinson, R-3rd, will moderate.
The meeting is a chance for residents to express concerns to elected officials and city department heads. Topics for discussion will include police patrols and responsiveness, neighborhood cleanups, crime prevention and block watches.
2 teens are arrested
STRUTHERS -- Police arrested a 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl trying to break into a vacant house in the 100 block of Elm Street on Friday afternoon.
According to the report, a witness watched the pair pry open the door to an enclosed rear porch. They were inside the enclosed porch when police arrived.
A screw driver, bolt assembly, knife, and two tire irons were taken as evidence. The report states the door had fresh pry marks and snapped hinges.
Jury selection begins
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jury selection began Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where Eugene Archer is on trial on a murder charge.
Archer, 56, of Cohasset Drive, is accused of killing 52-year-old Bruce Howard of Fountain Square, Austintown, in August 2002. Howard was found shot to death at N & amp;N Supermarket on Glenwood Avenue.
Archer has been in the county jail on a $500,000 bond since shortly after the shooting.
Hubbard satellite dishes
HUBBARD -- Service Director Al Patrick is cautioning those living in residential neighborhoods that they need a permit to install satellite dishes. He told city council Monday that a 1987 ordinance says a permit that doesn't cost anything must be obtained. Patrick said dishes cannot be put on houses or in front yards. They must be in back yards. The ordinance was adopted in 1987, when small dishes weren't available.
In another matter, Mayor Arthur U. Magee told council members that he will meet with them individually to determine what capital improvements are needed in the wards and citywide. Voters approved a 0.5 percent increase in the income tax Nov. 2. The city will begin receiving the added revenue the first of the year.
Robbins keeps position
SHARON, Pa. -- State Sen. Bob Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, has been re-elected to his position as Senate majority caucus secretary. Senate Republicans re-elected their leadership team Monday.
As caucus secretary, Robbins handles all nominations submitted by the governor to the Senate for approval, reviewing the background and experience of nominees and ensuring that proper documentation is submitted. The post is the fifth ranking leadership position in the Senate Republican Caucus.
Ronald McDonald to visit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ronald McDonald, the clown of the fast-food restaurant chain, will visit patients at Tod Children's Hospital from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday as part of World Children's Day activities. The day is the annual global fund-raiser benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities and local children's causes, officials said. Patrons of McDonald's restaurants will be able to donate to the charity Wednesday through Saturday.
