WEDGEWOOD PLAZA Police probe fighting in teen club parking lot
Police were called to the same place in August after fights broke out.
AUSTINTOWN -- Police continue investigating what caused several fights that occurred late Friday in the parking lot of the Teen Scene clubin Wedgewood Plaza.
Officers said about 400-650 young people lingered in the club's parking lot at about 10:30 p.m. and ignored orders to leave. The youths then gathered into small groups and began to fight, reports state.
Police called for assistance from several local police departments, including Canfield police. The young people stopped fighting and began to leave when the other police officers arrived, reports state.
Teen Scene is a club for those 18 and younger.
Arrests
Reports state that a short time later, police arrested two young people, ages 14 and 15, both of Filmore Avenue, Youngstown, and charged them with failure to disperse after they ignored officers' orders to leave the McDonald's restaurant near the club on South Raccoon Road. The teens were released to their parents after being taken to the police station.
It was not the first time police have been asked to break up fights in the parking lot of the club, which was formerly The Mill nightclub.
In August, fights led to what police reports described as "riot conditions" in the parking lot. Several local police departments helped Austintown police break up those fights, and three teens and a 12-year-old were arrested.
Club management changed hands after those fights.
