AUSTIN, Texas -- Tiffany Jackson scored 15 points after sitting out most of the first half and Texas got a career game from senior Mercedes Williams in the Tip-Off Classic. Williams, a senior who averaged just 2.5 points in her first three years, gave the Longhorns a lift with 15 points and nine rebounds, both career highs. Coco Reed added 12 points for Texas, while Heather Schreiber and Jamie Carey each scored 11. Tanisha Wright and Jess Strom combined for all but 21 of Penn State's points, Wright finishing with a career-high 30 and Strom 18.
No. 3 LSU 71, No. 8 Baylor 70
AUSTIN, Texas -- Seimone Augustus scored a career-high 33 points, but LSU needed a last-second deflection by 5-foot-3 Temeka Johnson to escape with a win in the Tip-Off Classic. Johnson finished with 15 points, nine assists and four steals. LSU (3-0) led by as many as 21, but Baylor (0-1) charged back behind 22 points by Steffanie Blackmon, Sophia Young's 19 and Emily Niemann's 15.
No. 6 Duke 82, South Florida 50
DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman point guard Wanisha Smith scored 20 points in her first collegiate start and junior Mistie Williams had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Duke past South Florida in the second round of the Women's NIT. Monique Currie added 17 points and Jessica Foley 12 for the Blue Devils (2-0). Anedra Gilmore led South Florida (1-1) with 14 points. Jessica Dickson had 13 and Ezria Parsons added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
No. 10 Notre Dame 73, Nebraska 57
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jacqueline Batteast scored 24 points and Teresa Borton added 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Notre Dame over Nebraska in the second round of the Preseason WNIT. The Irish will play host to Duke in a semifinal game Wednesday. Notre Dame (2-0) was in control though most of the game against Nebraska. Batteast, who was in foul trouble in the opener and played just 17 minutes, was 10-of-18 from the field and matched her career high with seven assists in 36 minutes. Breona Gray added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Irish, and Borton had her third career double-double. Chelsea Aubry led the Cornhuskers with 16 points, and Jessica Gerhart added 13.
No. 14 Minnesota 77, UNLV 69
SEATTLE -- Jamie Broback scored 28 points to help Minnesota defeat UNLV at the WBCA Classic. Sheena Moore scored a game-high 34 points for UNLV (0-1), which played without Sherry McCracklin due to an Achilles injury. The Gophers were without preseason All-America center Janel McCarville, who has not recovered from a broken hand. She's expected back this week. The Gophers (1-0) turned 22 turnovers by the Lady Rebels into 26 points, and never trailed. UNLV pulled within 49-48 midway through the second half, but the Gophers used a 13-4 run to ensure the win.
No. 24 Arizona 68, Rice 43
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Shawntinice Polk had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead Arizona past Rice in the preseason WNIT, the Wildcats' 29th straight win at home. Dee-Dee Wheeler added 12 points for Arizona (2-0), which will play Ohio State in the semifinals Wednesday. Amber Cunningham led Rice (1-1) with nine points.
