SWCD plans election to fill vacancies



Three people are seeking election to two seats.
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a special election Thursday for its board of supervisors.
There are two vacancies, with three people seeking election to the three-year terms.
The election will be in conjunction with the district's 53rd annual meeting.
Candidates are Terry Abrams of Struthers, David Hull of Green Township and Gary Ruggles Jr. of North Jackson.
Eligible voters must be Mahoning County residents who are at least 18 and own land. There are three options for voting:
UCall or visit the SWCD office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield, to request an absentee ballot.
UCast a ballot at the SWCD office during business hours Thursday.
UCast a ballot at the annual meeting from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. The banquet begins at 7 p.m.
The cost of the dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Reservations must be received by Tuesday. After dinner, the Conservation Cooperator of the Year award will be announced and prizes will be given away.

Established in 1951, the Mahoning SWCD is a legal subdivision of state government that provides natural resource management assistance to county landowners and other units of local government.
The district is funded by county commissioners with supplemental funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The district is governed by a five-member board of supervisors who serve staggered three-year terms.
