CANDIDATES Board of supervisors



Candidates for two positions on the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District's board of supervisors:
Terry Abrams of Struthers is deputy executive director of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of the Mahoning Valley. He is a member of several civic organizations and the Highland Presbyterian Church of New Castle, Pa.
Conservation practices he is familiar with include urban best management practices, which can include water quality/conservation and sediment control.
David Hull of Green and his family operate Whitehouse Fruit Farm on U.S. Route 62. The 200-acre farm produces apples, peaches, berries and assorted vegetables.
Conservation practices he has applied in his operation include cover crops, grassed waterways and ponds.
He is involved with Cub Scouts Pack 25 and a member of the Midwest Apple Improvement Association.
Gary Ruggles Jr. of North Jackson and his family operate a 400-acre farm where they raise corn, soybeans and alfalfa while maintaining a 75-head dairy herd.
No-till, grassed waterways and tile drainage are among the conservation practices he has employed at his farm. He is currently an SWCD supervisor.
Ruggles is a member of Mahoning County Farm Bureau and serves on the Columbiana-Mahoning County Dairy Herd Improvement Association committee.
