College scholarships
The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges' Ohio Scholars Program has awarded 910 scholarships, totaling more than $1.7 million to students currently attending college. The program is funded by corporations and foundations whose contributions provide scholarships to students who might otherwise be unable to afford higher education costs. Area college students who were awarded scholarships are:

Beloit -- Jason Ramsey, Ohio Wesleyan University.
Boardman -- Lonette Clinkscale, Malone College; Rebecca Tinney, Mount Union College; Tyler Trolio, John Carroll University; David Norton, Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Canfield -- Catherine Curran, Mount Union College.
Damascus -- Natalie Cope, The College of Wooster.
Leetonia -- Juanita Phippen, Defiance College.
New Middletown -- Brooke Tabaka, Mount Union College.
New Waterford -- Alicia Spencer, Baldwin-Wallace College.
