MIAMI -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 41 points and Marquis Daniels added 22 to help Dallas hand Miami its first loss of the season and ending its franchise-record 14-game home winning streak. Nowitzki made 12 of 24 shots from the field, shot 4-for-7 from 3-point range, made all 13 free throws and added 10 rebounds for Dallas (5-1). Shaquille O'Neal had 22 points -- giving him 22,002 for his career -- and 10 rebounds for the Heat, who lost for the first time in five games this season. Dwyane Wade added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists before spraining his left ankle with 7:07 remaining. He did not return.
Timberwolves 96, Rockets 91
HOUSTON -- Kevin Garnett hit a jumper with 8.3 seconds remaining and finished one assist shy of a triple double. Garnett had 20 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists, and Eddie Griffin made a key 3-pointer down the stretch against the team with which he began his troubled career, sending the Timberwolves past a Rockets team missing leading scorer Tracy McGrady. McGrady missed his first game of the season with nagging hip and groin strains. Yao Ming scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half and Maurice Taylor added 19.
Nuggets 117, Pistons 109
DENVER -- Carmelo Anthony had 34 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals to help the Nuggets end a three-game losing streak. The Nuggets played by far their best game of the season despite losing center Marcus Camby to a hamstring strain late in the second quarter. Earl Boykins had a career-high 32 points to become the smallest player in league history to eclipse 30 points and Denver shot 50 percent to end a seven-game losing streak against the defending champions. Detroit cut the lead to 104-96 on Antonio McDyess' dunk, then forced three straight turnovers -- two by Boykins -- to get within four on Tayshaun Prince's two free throws with 3 minutes left. But Rodney White followed with a 3-pointer, Boykins hit a jumper and Anthony added two free throws after the 5-foot-5 Boykins sneaked in for an offensive rebound, putting the Nuggets up 109-101 with 1:12 remaining. Richard Hamilton had 25 points for Detroit, which shot 57 percent.
