After not-too-successfully taking on the culture of Washington, D.C., with "K Street," Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney are treading more familiar ground -- Hollywood -- for their next HBO project.
The show, "Unscripted," will follow the lives of three actors -- played by Krista Allen, Bryan Greenberg and Jennifer Hall -- as they try to break through in Hollywood while also dealing with more mundane aspects of daily life. Frank Langella ("Dave," 1979's "Dracula") also stars an acting teacher whose class the three attend.
As with "K Street," much of the dialogue in "Unscripted" will be improvised, and the characters will interact with showbiz types playing themselves. Cast members from such shows as "ER" -- where Clooney had his breakthrough -- and "George Lopez" will appear as the show's characters try to land parts on them.
A number of the situations in the show, scheduled to debut Jan. 9, will be based on the real-life experiences of the actors and producers.
Allen's r & eacute;sum & eacute; ranges from feature films such as "Anger Management" and Clooney's "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" to numerous TV guest appearances ("Charmed," "Smallville," "Fastlane") and even the title role in a few "Emmanuelle" movies in the mid-1990s.
Greenberg has a recurring part on "One Tree Hill" and appeared in the feature "The Perfect Score" earlier this year. Hall is a former regular on "All My Children" and starred in a "Legally Blonde" TV pilot in 2003 that was never picked up.
