WCI facility gets 60% tax break

WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners have approved a 60 percent tax break for 10 years on a facility intended to improve the efficiency of the WCI blast furnace.
Carbon Injection Systems, a new company formed by officials of Cleveland-based General Environmental Management, plans to build a $1.2 million to $1.6 million facility that will allow used motor and industrial oil to be used as fuel for the furnace.
The facility will allow WCI to save $200,000 a month on natural gas, said Eric Lofquist, the CIS general manager.
The facility will be built on WCI land, within the gates of the Warren Township steel mill. Township trustees approved the tax abatement Tuesday.
In return for the tax break, the company has pledged to hire nine workers within three years.
A hearing on another proposed tax break on a $14.5 million to $19 million renovation of International Steel Group's Warren coke plant has been put off pending approval by the Warren Board of Education.
ISG is asking for reduced taxes over a 15-year period.
