Detroit police arrest suspect in Pa. homicide

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Detroit police arrested a man accused in this week's shooting death of a 20-year-old city man.
Marlen Cooper, 46, of West Washington Street, was apprehended Wednesday after New Castle police received a tip of his whereabouts and notified Detroit police.
There was a short chase before Cooper was taken into custody, according to New Castle police. It is unclear when Cooper will be returned to Lawrence County to face charges.
Cooper is charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of Michael Boutros of Rebecca Street on Monday. Cooper is also charged with carrying a firearm without a license and being a convict prohibited from carrying a weapon. Court papers said Cooper was convicted in Michigan of concealing weapons and unarmed robbery.
Police said Boutros went to a Booker Drive home about 5:30 p.m. Monday to apparently sell a gun to a female resident. Cooper took the gun from the victim and told him to leave. Boutros threatened to return with friends to retrieve the gun and Cooper shot him, police said.
Boutros died about an hour later in Jameson Hospital. He had a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.
