Tuesday's games

Magic 94, Mavericks, 84
The Orlando Magic are seeing just what they missed when Grant Hill was sidelined by injury year after year. The stress fracture in Hill's left ankle limited him to 47 games before this season since he joined the Magic in 2000. He made his presence felt at home Tuesday night, scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Orlando's 94-84 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Since Hill got to Orlando, the Magic never advanced out of the playoffs' first round, and last year they finished 21-61. But he looks good, so far, in four games as the Magic are 3-1. Hill has already been able to play on back-to-back nights and he will do it again Wednesday when his team plays at Washington.
Pacers 102, Timberwolves 101
The Pacers started this season as a title contender and have shown nothing to change those opinions. Jermaine O'Neal had 22 points and eight rebounds to help the banged-up, unbeaten Pacers hold off the host Minnesota Timberwolves 102-101 -- with Ron Artest benched for an unspecified reason. Indiana is 4-0, and the Pacers got there despite the absence of Jonathan Bender (knee), Reggie Miller (broken hand) and Anthony Johnson (broken hand). Artest's unavailability was the most confounding. Last season's NBA Defensive Player of the Year, did something Monday that "compromised the integrity of the team," coach Rick Carlisle said. He added that it was a "private team matter" and said that Artest won't play Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, either. Steve Francis had 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, and No. 1 draft pick Dwight Howard chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Down the stretch, Minnesota forged a comeback led by Latrell Sprewell (21 points) and Wally Szczerbiak (20 points), but Indiana held on.
Heat 103, Wizards 93
At Miami, Shaquille O'Neal scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots in a victory over Washington. Dwayne Wade had 22 points and nine assists, and Udonis Haslem chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Miami -- 4-0 for the first time in club history. The Heat also set a record by winning their 14th straight regular season home game dating to last season.
Nets 64, Trail Blazers 60
At East Rutherford, N.J., Alonzo Mourning scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his first start since his kidney transplant, and New Jersey beat Portland in what was nearly the lowest scoring game in modern NBA history. The 124-point total was only five off the previous record for combined scoring futility. Portland's Zach Randolph led all scorers with 16 points.
Knicks 96, 76ers 88
At New York, Jamal Crawford scored 22 points, Stephon Marbury had 13 points and 12 assists and Nazr Mohammed scored 18 to help the host Knicks win their first game of the season. Allen Iverson led Philadelphia with 29 points and 10 assists but committed nine of the Sixers' 28 turnovers.
Suns 94, Bulls 74
At Chicago, Amare Stoudemire had 26 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to lead four Suns players in double figures, and Phoenix earned its fourth straight victory. Shawn Marion also had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Steve Nash added 12 assists and eight points. The Suns (4-0) lead the NBA in scoring and have won all of their games by double digits.
Lakers 106, Hornets 98
At New Orleans, Kobe Bryant scored 31 points -- including 14-of-14 from the line -- to lead Los Angeles. The Hornets trailed by 33 points in the third quarter but outscored the Lakers 42-19 in the fourth to make it close. Caron Butler added 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Baron Davis led New Orleans with 23 points.
Rockets 90, Grizzlies 87
At Houston, Tracy McGrady left in the third quarter with a hip injury, and the host Rockets hung on to beat the winless Grizzlies. McGrady strained his right hip and said he wasn't sure if he would be able to play Thursday against Minnesota. He finished with 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
SuperSonics 108, Nuggets 88
At Denver, Ray Allen scored 30 points to help Seattle prolong the Nuggets' early-season misery. Rashard Lewis scored 27 points, Luke Ridnour had 11 assists, and the Sonics improved to a surprising 3-1. Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points for the Nuggets (1-4).
Kings 108, Raptors 92
At Sacramento, Calif., Chris Webber had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists -- his 18th career triple-double -- to help the Kings win their first game of the season and hand Toronto (3-1) its first loss.
