Local Red Cross chapter seeks nominations for hero awards
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its Second Annual Heroes of the Mahoning Valley event Jan. 15, and is soliciting hero nominations, which must be received by Friday.
This event honors local heroes who have performed an extraordinary act of courage, donated countless hours to the betterment of our community, or someone who has shown an unusual kindness and unselfish character through their actions.
The hero nomination categories are:
UFirefighter.
ULaw Enforcement.
UMedical.
UGood Neighbor (over 21).
UYouth Samaritan (under 21).
UAnimal (either human caregiver or animal hero).
UWorkplace safety.
UEducator.
UCommunity Impact (involvement in a project that has an impact on the community.
The heroic act must have been performed between Sept. 1, 2003, and Sept. 1, 2004, and taken place in the Mahoning Chapter's jurisdiction, which consists of Mahoning County, Hubbard, Liberty and Girard.
Nominations must be submitted on Red Cross forms. Nominees must follow Red Cross rules and guidelines to qualify and must attend the breakfast to accept the award.
