Ride inspector guilty in death

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- A state ride inspector has been found guilty of failing to properly inspect a bumper car ride that electrocuted an 8-year-old boy.
Theodore Brubaker said he didn't properly examine the ride, but that he wasn't to blame for Greyson Yoe's death last year. Brubaker, 44, of Bellevue, was one of two Ohio Department of Agriculture employees charged in connection with the death. Greyson was shocked when he touched a rail while waiting for the ride at the Lake County Fair. Prosecutors said an electrical wire was not properly grounded.
Brubaker pleaded no contest Monday and was found guilty of dereliction of duty. He was sentenced to 15 days in jail. Defense lawyer Donald Varian said Brubaker failed to inspect some parts of the ride, but none related to the electrocution.
"He did a visual observation of the ride," Varian said. "He is not a licensed electrical inspector. We don't get involved at all in public power inspections."
Ride inspector Kalin Turner, 42, was found guilty of dereliction of duty after pleading no contest in September and will be sentenced in December. Ride owner Eugene Chaffee, 48, of Riverview, Fla., was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to attempted involuntary manslaughter.
