ODOT to reopen Route 45
SALEM -- The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to reopen state Route 45 between and Salem and Lisbon no later than Monday.
Becky McCarty, a spokeswoman for ODOT's District 11, said Monday the road could reopen later this week. Guardrails have to be installed before traffic resumes. The road and a large culvert were washed away by heavy rains this summer.
Volunteer tutors needed

Packages sent overseas
BESSEMER, Pa. -- The Mohawk Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 267 and its Ladies Auxiliary has mailed some $1,500 worth of items to the Army Reserve's 630th Transportation Company, which is presently serving in Iraq. The unit's home base is in Washington, Pa.
Post 267 purchased from a list of the 12 most requested food items by soldiers of the 630th. Donations from area merchants were used to help buy items and to cover mailing costs, said Phillip Kelley, project commander.
The food and other items were packed for shipping last Thursday and mailed at the Bessemer Post Office on Friday, Kelley said. He said the packages should reach the 630th before Thanksgiving.
FEMA deadline
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Mayor Robert Carson said Monday that any village resident who experienced damage in the Sept. 19 storm should call village offices before the Nov. 18 deadline to file a claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Veterans Day closings
MERCER, Pa. --All state driver's license and photo centers will be closed Thursday in observance of Veterans Day. The public can still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle services online by visiting PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services Web site at www.dmv.state.pa.us. The site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Theater demolition begins
GREENVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- A movie theater named for the first Greenville resident killed in World War II will be rubble by Veterans Day.
Crews began preparing the Jordan Theater for demolition on Monday, and workers were to demolish the building today and Wednesday.
Opened in 1946, the theater was named for Cpl. James O. Jordan. Greenville's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374 is also named for Jordan.
The 1,200-seat theater has been vacant since the 1980s, with various efforts to refurbish it having fallen through. The neighboring First Baptist Church now owns the property and is tearing it down so that the church can expand its parking lot.
Home burglarized
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said someone broke a window in a back door of a home in the 400 block of Malleable Street and stole a 32-inch television set and a Black & amp; Decker cordless drill. The resident said the burglary occurred between 2:30 and 6:45 p.m. Monday while she was away.
