After consideration, councilman decides to run for mayor of Sharon
SHARON, Pa. -- City Councilman Bob Lucas is taking a run at the mayor's seat.
Lucas, 53, of Hall Avenue, was appointed to fill a council vacancy and then was elected to his own four-year term that began in January of this year.
He said today that, following several months of consideration, he has decided to run.
Incumbent Mayor David O. Ryan, whose first term ends next year, hasn't announced plans for a re-election bid although he is expected to run. Both men are Democrats.
Lucas said the policies of old must be abandoned, and the city must put in place a sound business plan to guide itself. The old crisis-management style of running the city must be avoided, he said.
Budgets must be based on realistic forecasts and then must be adhered to, he said, adding that a critical analysis of all income and expenditures must be performed, enlisting the assistance of the business community in the process.
Sharon must identify its positive qualities and, most importantly, tackle the negatives that plague it, Lucas said.
Lucas, a retired city firefighter, owns and operates Lucas Carpets & amp; Installation and owns Medical Reimbursement Solutions with his wife.
