Group seeks volunteers to deliver meals

SALEM -- Mobile Meals of Salem Inc. needs volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound residents.
Geoffrey Goll, Mobile Meals president, said the organization was founded in 1976, and since that time, volunteers have not missed a day of delivering midday meals Monday through Friday, 52 weeks a year.
He said with about 40 meals delivered each day, that is 230,000 deliveries.
Goll said new volunteer drivers are needed because some of the organization's strongest supporters are no longer able to deliver meals.
He said volunteers must be able to work about two hours at least one day each month delivering meals using their own vehicles. Routes average about 25 miles, and delivery begins at 11 a.m.
Volunteers choose the day or days they want to deliver meals and meet at the Salem Community Hospital.
Anyone who delivers meals receives a complimentary lunch at the hospital after they finish their deliveries, Goll said.
