KIWANIS District officers installed at banquet in Canfield



Members recognized for years of service to the organization.
CANFIELD -- The installation of officers and the presentation of awards were highlights of a meeting and banquet held by District 21 Kiwanis clubs on Oct. 9 at A La Cart Catering . Hosts for the event were the Austintown and Western Mahoning County Kiwanis clubs.
Robert Guyan Jr. , District 21 lieutenant governor, installed the following club presidents for 2004-2005: Claudia Newhard, Austintown; Dan Cvercko, Boardman; Marianne Wolf, East Liverpool; John Turner, East Palestine; Stanley Massarelli, Poland; Jack Gilmore, Steubenville; Jim Orsini, Toronto; Ron Strichek, Uptown; Richard Fruit, Western Mahoning County; and Michele Merkel, Downtown Youngstown.
Joyce Pogany of Austintown received an award of appreciation and recognition for her years of service as a secretary to the division. Starfish Awards were also given to Pogany and Guyan for their dedication to the Kiwanis organization.
Also honored at the event were Kiwanis Governor Maury Cron and his wife, Dolores.
This year the division will focus on projects and fund-raisers that will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Youngstown. The organization is also involved in Tod Children Hospital Telethon, the Toys for Tots Drive, the Fred Perry Poker Run, and many other child-oriented charities and causes in the area.
