KEYSTONE CLIPS October brought a reprieve from a very wet year
The Shenango Valley finally dried out a bit in October, according to precipitation records kept by the Shenango Valley Division of the Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. water company.
The Valley has been much wetter than normal for nearly two years, but precipitation in October amounted to only 1.83 inches as compared with the 2.77 inches that is average for that month. 2004 continues to be damper than normal, with total precipitation so far this year at 37.5 inches as compared with the normal 34.43 inches for the first 10 months of the year. The total average annual precipitation in the Valley is 40.64 inches. The total for 2003 rose to 50.67 inches.
Dinner and movie
Penn State Shenango Students for Cultural Diversity will have a Thanksgiving dinner and Movie at Lunch Time on Nov. 16 at the campus at 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon. The dinner is $7.50 and will be provided by Gibbs Catering and served at 11:30 a.m. in the gymnasium in Sharon Hall.
The movie, "What's Cooking," will begin at noon in Sharon Hall Room 105. The club will also sponsor a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle beginning at 9 a.m. in the gym. For tickets, call (724) 983-2835 or stop a at the campus Student Affairs Office in Sharon Hall Room 210.
Recycling grant
Lawrence County commissioners will soon be getting a $28,527 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, said state Rep. Frank LaGrotta of Ellwood City, D-10th.
The grant is part of the county recycling coordinator grant program. The money will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator's salary and expenses.
