Simpson's drummer takes blame for 'SNL' mishap
Simpson's drummer takesblame for 'SNL' mishap
It looks like Ashlee Simpson was wrong -- her "Saturday Night Live" lip-syncing meltdown wasn't her band's fault. Actually, the downfall Simpson suffered on live TV Oct. 23 was specifically her drummer's fault, reports E!Online.
So says the drummer himself, Chris Fox, in a missive he posted on Simpson's Web site, www.ashleesimpsonmusic.com, in which he takes the brunt of the blame for the pop tart's SNL mishap.
Billing itself as "a few words from someone 'on the inside,'" Fox's mea culpa explains that he is the person "in charge of starting the songs and cueing their backing tracks [miscellaneous percussion, random sound effects, etc.]. Plain and simple, I cued the wrong song."
What followed were about 30 seconds of televised career carnage. As the band began its second "live" performance of the night, Simpson's voice rang out with the opening lines of "Pieces of Me," the song she'd already performed, while her mike dangled by her waist and her mouth remained closed. Simpson looked perplexed before breaking into her now-infamous jig, or in her words, "a hoedown."
Freddie Prinze Jr. getssitcom deal on ABC
NEW YORK -- Freddie Prinze Jr. is set to do television. The 28-year-old "Scooby-Doo" actor has signed a deal with Warner Bros. and ABC to create and star in his own sitcom.
Although the clean-cut Prinze has popped up for guest spots on "Boston Legal" and "Friends," he's most noted for his turns in both "Scooby-Doo" movies and the slasher film "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
"This was something I wanted to do for a long time," Prinze told The Associated Press while on the set of his latest movie.
"It's tough working on the road all the time. I love my family. I love my wife. I miss them. I want to be in Los Angeles. A TV schedule, especially half-hour, allows you the opportunity to go and make movies when you want to make movies and then still be able to satisfy yourself creatively from home."
In the sitcom, Prinze will portray a Puerto Rican raised in a household of women, an experience he said is based on his own life. Prinze was raised by his mother in New Mexico after his father, "Chico and the Man" star Freddie Prinze, committed suicide in 1977. "I told them I won't do TV unless I'm the executive producer, unless I'm the creator, unless I'm a writer on the show," Prinze said. "If that's a problem, I understand that and respect that. I have to make sure it's represented the way it is. The only way to do that is if I have one boss and not seven."

"I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel the rest of this fun and successful tour," the 36-year-old rapper-actor said in a statement. "I apologize for disappointing my fans who have already bought tickets."
If celebs ran the country, life could be interesting
Not happy with the way the election turned out? Be grateful that some civic-minded celebs weren't on the ballot, reports the New York Daily News. Imagine a state where the death penalty was enforced in Spartacus-like gladiator contests, as novelist Norman Mailer proposed when he ran for mayor of New York in 1969. Among the other schemes of our would-be lawmakers:
UEnrique Iglesias once said that if he were president he'd "pass a law saying that good-looking girls should walk around naked at all times."
UPint-size actor Gary Coleman, who ran in California for the U.S. Senate in 2000 and governor last year, tried to ban grown men on scooters.
