Report reveals Elton Johnwants to wed; rep denies
LONDON -- Elton John is planning to become a married man.
The flamboyant performer is saying that he wants to wed his longtime companion, David Furnish, reports MSNBC.com.
"We haven't set a date, and it surely won't be a big public ceremony, but I would like to place my life in his hands with a wedding vow," the Rocket Man told the German weekly celebrity magazine Gala. John is in Berlin to accept Germany's "Bambi" media award for his work to fight AIDS.
The 57-year-old admitted that in his boozy, druggy youth he lived "like a wild animal," but added, "I have never been so happy ... I cannot imagine a life without Furnish."
A source who knows the singer says, "I didn't hear him say those exact words, but I know those are his sentiments."
John's rep, however, denies the story, saying, "Elton's not planning to marry David."
Duke is in fair conditionafter bypass surgery
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- Oscar-winner Patty Duke underwent single bypass surgery Wednesday and was in fair condition, officials said.
The 57-year-old actress was in the intensive-care unit at the North Idaho Heart Center.
"Her husband said everything went well," said Kootenai Medical Center spokeswoman Teri Farr. The heart center is part of the medical facility.
Last spring, the actress was admitted to the center for insertion of a stent in one of her arteries to improve blood flow.
Duke was expected to recover in time to serve as chairwoman for the Nov. 26-29 Festival of Trees; proceeds benefit the heart center. She lives in the area with her husband, Mike Pearce.
Earlier this year, the actress received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She won a best supporting actress Oscar in 1963 for her portrayal of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker," and an Emmy in 1980 for her portrayal of Keller's teacher, Annie Sullivan, in the made-for-TV version of the film.
She also played identical teenage cousins Patty and Cathy Lane on the 1960s television comedy "The Patty Duke Show."
Her two sons, Mackenzie and Sean Astin, also are actors; Sean Astin starred in "The Lord of the Rings" movies.
I got caught up in hype,'Titanic' star admits
LOS ANGELES -- Leonardo DiCaprio's has confessed that his once-titanic ego made him think he'd "changed the course of history," reports Ananova.com.
The "Titanic" star says he was so caught up with his own hype after he was nominated for an Oscar for his 1994 film "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" that he lost touch with reality.
Critics even hailed Leo as the next Marlon Brando.
"As soon as enough people give you enough compliments and you're wielding more power than you've ever had in your life ... you get a false sense of your own importance and what you've accomplished.
"You actually think you've altered the course of history."
DiCaprio says he now has a more relaxed attitude toward fame and has credited his dad with bringing him back down to earth. He also says some of today's young movie stars are on the same ego trip -- but refused to name them.
DiCaprio is dating Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. He's rumored to have also dated Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova and Demi Moore.
