'LEST WE FORGET' Concert to honor veterans
The performance features a mezzo soprano, a cellist and an organist.
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- "Lest We Forget," a concert in honor of fallen veterans, will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday at New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road, by Youngstown Symphony Chorus as directed by Don Megahan. The concert will include "Requiem" by Maurice Durufl & eacute;.
Featured performers will be:
UPatricia Donohue Burns, a mezzo soprano. She has performed with the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, Three Rivers Choral Society and has participated in educational outreach with the Pittsburgh Opera. She holds a master of music degree from New England Conservatory and is a faculty member at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.
UGregg Kinat, cellist. He is the principal cellist with Greenville Symphony and a cello professor at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. He has a master of music degree in cello performance from Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. Kinat's appearances have included the Henry Mancini Institute, Ohio Light Opera and Chatauqua Institute.
UKathryn Davison Miller, organist. She is the choir director and organist for First Presbyterian Church in Warren and Temple Rodef Shalom in Youngstown. She earned a master of music degree in organ performance at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
"Requiem," a Mass for the dead with Gregorian chants, was written by Durufl & eacute; to highlight the organ. The organ at the New Springfield church is unique in that it is a melding/restoration of several disassembled organs in the area. The program also will feature a premiere of a Hebrew piece, an arrangement by Pittsburgh composer Glenn L. Rudolph.
