FARRELL, Pa. -- Police have charged a 17-year-old Farrell High School student with making a fake bomb threat at the school Oct. 20.
The threat was written on a mirror in a boys restroom, and both the high school and elementary schools were evacuated.
The boy is charged with making terroristic threats, causing or risking a catastrophe and disorderly conduct.
He is being held in detention at Keystone Adolescent Center pending a juvenile court hearing.
Police said they are still investigating three other threats that occurred at the school during a three-week period in October.
Debris will be removed
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- The debris that amassed in the vicinity of railroad bridges across the Connoquenessing Creek during recent flooding will be removed next week.
State Rep. Frank LaGrotta of Ellwood City, D-10th, asked the Baltimore & amp; Pittsburgh Railroad company to start cleanup in Zelienople and include the five railroad bridges along the creek's route, which runs through Beaver and Lawrence counties.
LaGrotta said the railroad has been cooperative in ensuring the debris will be removed.
Show at planetarium
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College Planetarium presents "Just Imagine" at 7 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13. There is also a 3 p.m. show Saturday.
Imagination is the key to this cosmic journey. The show begins by exploring the most common constellations, especially those of the fall and winter.
Past cultures have looked up at the sky and used their imaginations to see different patterns in the stars. This show asks the audience to imagine what our world would be like with out the moon.
Weather permitting, the audience of the evening shows will be invited to the rooftop observatory to look at the current sights in the sky.
The show is free. There is limited seating and reservations are required. Call (724) 946-7200 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to make reservations.
Family Math Night set
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine Middle School, 320 W. Grant St., is having its annual Family Math Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Parents, grandparents and other family members are invited for an evening of fun math activities.
Cindy McKinstry, seventh- and eighth-grade math teacher, has organized math games to challenge the participants, including having a decimal tournament, "Gotcha" card game, percent candy jar, dice, lateral thinking puzzles and more.
Refreshments will be served and prizes will be awarded.
Robbery, assault reported
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police said a 21-year-old Darr Avenue man was the victim of a strong-arm robbery and assault in an alley between the 1100 blocks of Wallis and Fruit avenues.
Demetrius Clark was walking through the alley Friday evening when three men in dark clothing came out of a yard and grabbed him. He was beaten with a firearm and some of his personal property was taken, police said.
Clark was taken to Sharon Regional Health System's hospital and later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment of a broken jaw.
Intruders rob man
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Police said a 48-year-old West Salem Township man was confronted and robbed by intruders who were waiting for him when he came home.
The intruders held the victim at gunpoint when he arrived around 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said. They took his wallet and fled.
Negotiations to resume
HARRISBURG -- Contract negotiations between Pennsylvania Turnpike officials and Teamsters Union representatives are scheduled to resume Tuesday.
Talks between the two sides ended in an impasse about 10 days ago, with Teamsters officials alerting turnpike management the union may call a strike without notice.
Some 2,000 workers, including toll collectors and maintenance personnel represented by Teamsters Locals 77 and 250, have been working under a contract that expired Sept. 30, 2003.
Joseph Brimmeier, turnpike executive officer, said because new bargaining sessions have been scheduled, he didn't anticipate a strike between today and next week.
