Abbey Road at the Butler
YOUNGSTOWN -- Make reservations by Friday and save money on tickets to Abbey Road's performance from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 13 at Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave. Abbey Road, a locally based Beatles tribute band, will perform with the Butler's vast art collection as its backdrop. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and include snacks. A cash bar will be available. Proceeds will go to the Butler's free programs. Call (330) 743-1711, Ext. 122.
Church groups compete
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Groups from local churches will participate in a "Battle of the Praise Bands" on Saturday in New Springfield Church of God, Garfield Road. Coffee and snacks will be served at 6:30 p.m., and music will begin at 7 p.m. A choir from Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley also will perform. Admission is free but donations will be accepted.
Canfield quilt display
CANFIELD -- Quilts from local collections will be shown from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Canfield Historical Society's Bond House, 44 W. Main St. Some of the quilts are from the estate of Ann Kilcawley Christman, who was a descendant of early settlers here, and have never been displayed.
CD by piano professor
YOUNGSTOWN -- Caroline Oltmanns, associate professor of piano at Youngstown State University, performs Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on her new CD on the Filia Mundi label. The CD is for sale at Barnes & amp; Noble Booksellers and the YSU Bookstore as well as the Amazon.com Web site. Oltmanns, who has taught at YSU's Dana School of Music since 1994, is a Fulbright Scholar and International Steinway Artist.
Hip-hop concert canceled
