WARREN -- A 43-year-old attorney from Concord has won a seat on the 11th District Court of Appeals.
Atty. Colleen O'Toole defeated Atty. Mary Jane Trapp for the six-year term.
O' Toole won in four of the five counties that make up the 11th District Court of Appeals.
"It's fabulous," O'Toole said. "I want to thank everyone who voted for me, and I will do my best to live up to their expectations."
O'Toole will replace Judge Judith Christley, who is retiring.
The 11th District Court of Appeals covers the counties of Trumbull, Geauga, Ashtabula, Lake and Portage.
O'Toole won in all counties except Trumbull.
Reaction
"I'm disappointed at the votes in Trumbull and Portage County," Trapp said, noting that she thought she would pull more Democratic voters in those counties.
Trapp has lived in the district for 17 years, and O'Toole has been a resident of the district for three years.
O'Toole, a Republican who has been an attorney in private practice for 14 years, says she sought the office because she is dedicated to public service.
Trapp, a Democrat, has been a managing partner in the law firm of Apicella & amp; Trapp since 1996.
A graduate of John Carroll University and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, O'Toole says she wants to computerize the court and enable litigants to electronically file their appeals.
