BROOKFIELD -- Trustees rescheduled a presentation outlining a plan to possibly bring bus service to the township through the Western Reserve Transit Authority.
The presentation was reset for their next regular meeting in December. Trustees meet the first Monday of the month.
Trustee Gary Lees said Monday that James Ferraro, WRTA executive director, was scheduled to give the presentation at the board's regular November meeting, but that had to be rescheduled because the director was out of town.
Lees said the trustees approached Ferraro with the idea of possibly providing bus service to township residents earlier this year. He added that while no specific plan has been outlined, the township does have a need for regular public transportation services.
Lees said service could include regular stops between Brookfield and Kent State University Trumbull Campus in Champion Township, as well as between the township and Youngstown State University.
Route to mall
Service from Brookfield to the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage is another possible route that could be explored, said Lees. He said a regular route to the mall would be especially beneficial to area seniors.
Lees said he hopes routes could eventually be developed that would connect Brookfield to other Trumbull County townships, and to Youngstown and Warren as well.
In other action, Trustee J. Philip Schmidt said flu shots will be given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the township administration building on Strimbu Drive. Schmidt added that only 75 vaccinations are available so only those considered high risk will receive them. High-risk individuals are those age 65 and older and with health problems, or those under 65 years old and with health problems, said Schmidt.
Trustees also announced the annual Christmas caroling at the township green will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. The caroling will be done by Brookfield junior and senior high school pupils. Lees asked local members of the clergy to volunteer to lead the caroling since the school district does not have a chorus or chorus leader this year.
