Boy, 11, faces chargesin firing near woman
YOUNGSTOWN -- An 11-year-old boy of Dorothy Avenue admitted to police that he fired a BB gun Monday afternoon in the direction of a 37-year-old Lee Street woman but not at her, reports show.
The woman was hit in the midsection of her back as she was unlocking her back door and, when she turned, caught a glimpse of a boy with a rifle in a second-floor rear window of a house on Dorothy. As police investigated, the boy and his mother arrived.
Officers arrested the boy on charges of felonious assault and criminal damaging.
Vehicle recovered
CAMPBELL -- Police recovered a 1996 Jeep Laredo that was apparently taken from the owner by two men who said he owed them money.
A police report said the wife of the man who was accosted told police that her husband was forced from the vehicle near the intersection of Jackson and Jean streets. Police recovered the vehicle from the 100 block of Jean Street.
The report does not say when the vehicle was taken or when it was recovered.
Woman's purse snatched
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 76-year-old West Princeton Avenue woman's purse was snatched Monday afternoon on Glenwood Avenue after she cashed two checks and bought a carton of cigarettes at Big A's convenience store, police said.
Unauthorized transactions
STRUTHERS -- Police are investigating the unauthorized use of a city woman's name and Social Security number to open an SBC home telephone account in Detroit and to obtain four cell phones from Cellular One, also in Detroit.
The 37-year-old victim told police she learned about the unauthorized accounts after both companies notified her about the transactions.
Police search for identity of pregnant woman
STRUTHERS -- Police are seeking the identity of a young, pregnant woman believed to have stolen a checkbook and debit card from a 79-year-old Creed Street woman and then using them to buy more than $400 worth of merchandise.
According to a police report, the young woman has long, light brown hair, is pregnant and on Oct. 28 asked to use the victim's telephone to call for a ride.
The next day, the victim discovered her wallet and checkbook missing.
After contacting the bank, the elderly woman learned that a young, pregnant woman with long brown hair had used the checkbook and debit card to make several unauthorized transactions, including buying $82.94 worth of Newport and Newport Light cigarettes at Rite Aid on Youngstown-Poland Road.
Pa. liquor board gift cards
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- This holiday season, you can give the gift of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
The board this week began selling gift cards in all state liquor stores, part of a broader effort by the state agency to become more consumer-friendly.
The state began allowing Sunday liquor sales at a limited number of stores last year.
The cards can be purchased in any denomination.
