Police seize drugs, guns
WEATHERSFIELD -- Police seized drugs, firearms and records while executing a search warrant on a mobile home over the weekend. No arrests were made. Police Chief Joseph Consiglio said today that a warrant was served Saturday at 158 10th St. at the Suburban Mobile Home Park after a three-month investigation by township and Niles police. Undercover drug buys were made at the trailer before the search, the chief said. Marijuana, three handguns, two shotguns, scales and records of drug transactions were seized, Consiglio said. The trailer had a closed-circuit camera on the outside that could be monitored from the inside, he added. The case that allegedly involves selling marijuana to juveniles will be presented to the Trumbull County grand jury, the chief said.
Communities honored
AAA and Ohio Motorists Safety Foundation honored the communities of Howland Township, Lordstown and McDonald during a luncheon recently at the Holiday Inn in Independence, Ohio. Accepting the awards for not having pedestrian fatality for 11 years in Lordstown was Police Chief Brent Milhoan; four years in McDonald, Police Chief Lou Ronghi; and one year in Howland Township, Police Chief Paul Monroe. The luncheon pays tribute to Northeast Ohio communities that demonstrate a high level of pedestrian safety and presents special community recognition awards to cities that provide community traffic safety leadership.

Safety hazards found
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two unsecured vacant buildings on West Federal Street present a safety hazard, according to police who noticed open doors while patrolling at 1 a.m. today. A search of 142 West Federal was suspended after police determined the floor was unsafe. Officers discovered plywood torn off 130 West Federal and the display window broken. No one was found inside when police searched.
Man finds man in van
YOUNGSTOWN -- An Austintown man waiting for his food order at Periscoop on Mahoning Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Sunday spotted a young man inside his minivan. He approached the man and was punched and thrown to the ground in the parking lot. The victim said he saw his attacker run to a gray car, which fled south on BonAir Avenue. The minivan's front license plate, which had been inside the vehicle, was taken, police said.
Man killed in accident
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said a Stoneboro man was killed when the car in which he was riding ran off Pa. Route 173 in Pine Township. Jeremy L. Jewell, 20, was pronounced dead at United Community Hospital at 5:52 a.m. Sunday. Police said he was a passenger in a car driven by Alan G. Coast Jr., 20, of Grove City, which was traveling south on Route 173, also known as North Broad Street Extension, around 4:55 a.m. Sunday when the car ran off the road. It rolled over numerous times, and Jewell, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown out, police said. Authorities weren't able to determine if Coast was wearing a seat belt. He was injured and taken to United Community for treatment. He was later flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. A report on his condition wasn't available this morning.
