INVESTIGATION Case goes cold for missing Penn State student
A psychic also was called in to help solve the case.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Police are no closer to finding Penn State student Cindy Song now than they were when she disappeared three years ago.
Song, 21, from South Korea, was last seen outside her apartment early on Nov. 1, 2001, after attending a Halloween party.
Leads are drying up, and many of Song's friends who had given information to police have left the area in the years since her death.
At the height of the investigation, state police had five or six troopers working on the case. Now, two troopers do routine updates, said state Police Capt. Joseph Holmberg, who last spoke to Song's family eight months ago.
"There are no real suspects in this yet," Holmberg said.
A year ago, the lead investigator in the case, Ferguson Township Detective Brian Sprinkle, said he had obtained "absolutely the best lead yet" while probing the possible involvement of convicted bank robber Hugo Selenski in the woman's disappearance.
But Song was not among five sets of remains unearthed from the back yard of Selenski's Luzerne County home last year, and Selenski has not been charged in her death.
"It's still an active case," Sprinkle told the Centre Daily Times for Sunday editions. "When we get a new lead, we work on that angle."
Information from psychic
Psychic Carla Baron, who has spoken to investigators about the case, has said she saw "clues" about Song's disappearance while walking near a stream in Luzerne County and talked with Song's spirit to give police information that may help the investigation.
Song's disappearance has been one of the most vexing cases in years in this central Pennsylvania college town.
A computer graphics student, Song was last seen around 3 a.m. Nov. 1, when friends dropped her off at her apartment after a Halloween party. She was reported missing two days later when she failed to show up for classes.
Police found no evidence of foul play at her apartment. There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle, and there was no activity on her bank accounts or credit cards.
