Daytime's most popular soap celebrates a milestone today, when "The Young and the Restless" (12:30 p.m., CBS) airs its 8,000th episode with the long-awaited wedding of Bobby Marsino and Brittany Hodges. (But will Brittany's disapproving parents show up for the ceremony?) Remarkably still young and restless, the show premiered March 26, 1973, in its fictional setting of midwestern metropolis Genoa City, and has been the No. 1 daytime drama for nearly 16 years.
The night before the presidential election, "Animal Icons: Political Animals" (8 p.m., Animal Planet) takes an amusing and informative look at the donkey and the elephant, symbols for Democrats and Republicans and icons of power throughout history.
"Identity Theft: The Michelle Brown Story" (9 p.m., Lifetime) casts Kimberly Williams-Paisley as a woman who fights to clear her name and credit history after a stranger named Connie (Annabella Sciorra) steals her identity. Connie buys hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise and services in Brown's name -- and then tries, through cosmetic surgery, to take on Brown's appearance. In July 2000, Brown testified on Capitol Hill. Her experience led to new federal legislation recently signed into law.
The greatest thing about "Saturday Night Live"'s being 30 years old is that it can provide endless clip shows. "SNL Presidential Bash 2004" (10 p.m. NBC) features past presidential mocking with Seth Meyers as John Kerry and Will Forte as George W. Bush.
