HORIZON NOTEBOOK | From Eastwood Field

Reliving memory: YSU assistant baseball coach Craig Antush is reliving some memories from his college days as a player. Antush played at the University of Alabama, where in his senior season (1983), the Crimson Tide swept the conference championship in four games, the regional title in three games and went to the College World Series championship game before losing to Texas. "Boy, it would be nice to do that all over again," he said.
Takes loss hard: Illinois-Chicago coach Mike Dee took the Flames' final defeat to Cleveland State hard Saturday night. After the top-seeded and defending tournament champs lost to the Vikings 12-8 and were eliminated, Dee walked from Eastwood Field all the way back to the Flames' motel in Austintown.
Selection show: The YSU baseball team and coaching staff will be on hand today at the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Niles to view the NCAA Tournament selection show, which will be televised on ESPN2 at noon. The public is welcomed to attend.
Extra bases: After getting 27 singles in its first three tournament games, YSU got four extra-base hits in the championship game. Charles Schultz, Jim Lipinski and Justin Banks all hit doubles, and Clint Ford hit a home run. For Ford, who has been hampered by injuries all this season and last and played in just eight games, it was his first home run since March 27, 2001.
Horizon happy: Horizon League official Alfreeda Goff, who was in charge of the tournament, praised the Youngstown State staff for its operation. "It was the finest-run tournament that I've been involved with," she said. "All week long this group had only one thing in mind, and that was making it a perfect week for the student-athletes involved. I'm so happy for Youngstown State and its team, which was most deserving of the title."
