Best Bets on TV Tonight



A prime-time version of "Direct Effect" (7 p.m., MTV) launches with host La La, DJ Clue and Al Shearer counting down the five most popular hip-hop tunes of the day.
As the countdown to the 60th anniversary of the World War II invasion continues, Tom Selleck stars in this new movie, "Ike: Countdown to D-Day" (8 p.m. A & amp;E) as Dwight D. Eisenhower, the general and future president who was in charge of the perilous operation. With James Remar as Gen. Omar Bradley, Timothy Bottoms as Gen. Walter "Beetle" Smith, and Gerald McRaney as Gen. George S. Patton.
For a large-scale re-creation of the events of June 6, 1944, check out this 1962 movie epic, "The Longest Day" (8 p.m., AMC) with a huge cast that includes John Wayne, Rod Steiger, Robert Ryan and Peter Lawford. (The Eisenhower role, not a big one here, went to Henry Grace.)
"Willie Nelson & amp; Friends: Outlaws and Angels" (9 p.m., USA) offers an all-star lineup in this two-hour Memorial Day concert. Hosted by actor James Caan, the program includes performances by Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Carole King, Lee Ann Womack and Kid Rock.
Bill Miller, who has the largest collection of Johnny Cash memorabilia in the world, will discuss his new book about the Man in Black on "Larry King Live" (9 p.m., CNN).
